Dr. Bamanga Tukur, CON (Tafidan Adamawa)
Executive President, African Business Roundtable; Chairman, NEPAD Business Group & Chairman BHI Holdings.
From 1975-1982 Dr Tukur was the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority. In 1983, he was elected civilian Governor of the now defunct Gongola State. Between 1993 and 1995, he was a member of the Federal Executive Council and the Minister of Industry of Nigeria. He is Honorary Life President of the west and central Africa Ports Management Association, and member of various Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria. He is a member of the International Business Advisory Council of UNIDO, and a member of the OECD Africa Investment Advisory Board. He was elected Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group in March 2002.
In January 2002, Alhaji Tukur was conferred with the National Honour of the Commander of the Order of the Mono (COM), by HE President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo in recognition of his contribution to business in Africa. H.E. President John Agyekum Kufuor appointed him to the Ghana Investors Advisory Council in 2002. In December 2003, President Olusegun Obasanjo conferred him with the National Honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). Alhaji Tukur was awarded the Doctorate Degree of Law (Honoris Causa) by the Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria; while the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, conferred on him the Institute's Fellowship. He holds the traditional title of Tafidan Adamawa in Yola, Adamawa State of Nigeria.
